To reiterate what others have already said, it just felt like the plot didn’t go anywhere. I remember watching it and waiting for things to pick up, but they never really did. I mean yeah, there was character development, a conflict, and a resolution, but it all felt so… tepid.
I was also kinda upset that the bow and arrow really had no bearing on the plot, though I felt that the marketing made it seem like a huge deal. The only real way it pushed the plot forward was when Merida’s mom throws her bow in the fire. Even then, you could just replace that scene with any other object that means a lot to Merida and the plot stays exactly the same.
I don’t know what I was expecting honestly, but it was more than what we got. Not a bad movie by any means, but it lacked that so-called “Pixar spark”.
